For a few years now I have been visiting a chiropractor for treatments every 10-12 weeks to help with my general health and well-being and to be honest it is something I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend for everyone.
The reason I went initially is because occasionally I would be getting headaches and neck pain, especially when carrying the kids when they were a bit younger and my wife had been to see Steven Lawrence @ Lawrence Chiropractic Clinic in Stone and found that he had sorted her postural issues out from carting kids about then they were little.
In February 2006, just 3 months before my eldest was born I broke my collarbone playing football, (you can imagine how that went down), little did i know but at the time when the hospital reset the bone it was at a different angle than it was originally, causing my shoulders to be at slightly different levels – thus causing muscular imbalance. Over time your body will find a way around these imbalances and ‘manage’ but what was happening was that when I overused certain muscles it caused issues which radiated as headaches and neck pain – been a typical man I soldiered on (complaining but still doing the things that caused my pain – some might say stubborn).
Fast forward a few years to when I was introduced to Steve and he started manipulating various parts of my skeleton which had become misaligned over time.
Now unlike some of the horror stories you hear about manipulation Steven’s practice work on minor adjustment techniques (I do recall my previous visit to an osteopath at a gym and he threw my body around like a ragdoll – not a pleasant experience) and as well as the adjustments Steve discusses the clients health and well-being as a whole (see below)…
“At our clinics we recognise that your health is based upon multiple factors (“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease” – WHO 1948).
We use highly specific, low-force chiropractic adjustments and cranial work to correct imbalances within the body. By correcting these issues, interference within the nervous system is reduced allowing the body to heal and repair itself. In addition to correcting physical issues with the body we take a functional medicine approach to your health; we can off advice on diet and lifestyle to improve your rate of healing and overall health and wellness. After all, you are what you eat.”
Finding that the initial treatments were correcting the underlying issues it was decided to continue with the treatments to use them as a general MOT for the body, the treatments could spot any potential issues arising, which with my job being very postural related is key – if I can’t treat or can’t run it means primarily all of my clients would miss out on the services I provide and that is unacceptable.
I am not going to go into the specifics of each treatment but it covers from the very top of my cranium (skull), down to the very tip of my distal phalanges (toes) and I find myself walking taller, running stronger and feeling healthier – now all I need to do is cut down on the hob nobs ;-(.
I can’t recall how many years I have now been to see Steve but it is now part of my overall regime, just like you go to the dentist for check ups, the doctors or pharmacists for blood pressure checks etc, or even your friendly sports massage therapist for your regular maintenance massage – we only have one body so it is important to look after it.
There are of course other chiropractors available but my experience with Steve has been second to none and I have no hesitation in recommending him – his details are on the partners page of my website if you are interested (he isn’t paying me to say or do any of this – but I believe in sharing good experiences – hence the blog).
Thanks for reading.
Paul
