Pectoralis Stretch

NB: Before any stretch, ensure you are warmed up – stretching a cold muscle can lead to injury. If it hurts…stop!. Don’t overdo it! If in doubt, ask a professional before attempting a stretching routine.

This is a great stretch to help with modern day conditions – such as Text Neck Syndrome which I discuss in more detail in the next article. More people are coming to me with stiff necks, limited range of motion and achy shoulders so this stretch is ideal to help ease those symptoms before your next visit to me. Perhaps after reading that newsletter or booking your next massage you can stand up and do this stretch before writing that positive review 😉

The Pectoral muscles are found at the front of the chest and connect the chest with the bones of the upper arm and shoulder – they help with a range of arm and shoulder movements and help stabilise the joint.

  • Find a door frame
  • Stand upright and tall with your shoulder at 90° (see picture)
  • Keeping weight on feet, lean forward and squeeze shoulder blades together.
  • Hold for 15 to 30 seconds.
  • Remember to stand tall and don’t lean or stretch to far forward that you fall over
  • With all stretches breathe slowly and rhythmically (don’t hold your breath)
  • Repeat every time you pass a door frame 😉
