Before any stretch, ensure you are warmed up – stretching a cold muscle can lead to injury. If it hurts…stop!. Don’t overdo it! If in doubt, ask a professional before attempting a stretching routine.
- Stand tall and maintain a good posture – if support is required hold onto a wall for example for balance.
- Keep the right leg straight with the foot flat on the ground and bend the left knee, bringing the foot up behind.
- Take the foot with the left hand and gently press it toward the left buttock, keeping the hips and knees in line.
- Hold for 30 seconds. After 20 seconds’ rest, repeat with the opposite leg.
- Repeat the entire sequence 3 times.
Note – stretching after a hard running session requires a different approach – this is designed as a daily routine to improve flexibility and mobility.
