What should I do after a Massage?

During a massage, whether it is a deep tissue treatment, a sports massage or even just for general relaxation we may free up soft tissue that has been restricted and this can occasionally lead to general aches and pains and sometimes cold and flu like symptoms.

Whilst these are uncomfortable, they are not serious and are a natural process of the body (however, if symptoms persist, please see your GP).

You may also feel sleepy and lethargic and want to do nothing more than curl up and a ball and enjoy that relaxed feeling.

Everybody responds to treatments completely differently and there is no set way to feel afterwards.

However, after a treatment we encourage our clients to do the following: –

  • Keep hydrated – drink water – this is perhaps the most important thing I recommend – water has so many positive benefits and at some point I will write a short piece outline the many benefits but for now just trust me !
  • If at all possible, try to avoid alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Try to get plenty of rest and a good sleep.
  • If you feel dizzy or drowsy after treatment rest – do not drive or operate machinery if unsure.
  • It is useful to have a warm bath or shower (unless you have been advised otherwise)
  • Gentle stretching or self – mobilisation exercises may help.
  • Ideally, if possible, avoid going for a run or doing strenuous exercise – but I do know that some people feel invigorated after a treatment  – everyone is different and you know your own body better than anyone.

If after a treatment you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask me.

So what are you waiting for book a treatment and enjoy the benefits.
